CARE OF LEATHER
Our vegetable tanned leather items come pre-treated with an organic sealant. This sealer will help keep the majority of oils and liquid off the surface of your items. Our leather, like any, will age naturally and gracefully. The fibers will react to excess water by stiffening and shrinking. So keep your items away from water (rain only; never submerge your leather in liquid) for at least the first month or so of use, to allow the leather fibers time to soften and absorb oils to increase its natural water resistance.
Additionally, all vegetable tanned leather is sensitive to high heat and extreme temperatures. It's just like your skin - lots of sunshine will naturally darken it and lots of heat will crack and burn it.
NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL IMPERFECTIONS
There may be some of nature's beauty marks left on the hide from the cow's life because leather is a natural material.
This means your accessory may have some small scars and imperfections. Not only do these marks lend a tremendous amount of character to your item, but they are also signs that you’re getting the best leather available. Rather than wearing out, veg tanned leather will naturally condition with use, developing a much sought-after patina and unique character over time. Truly, the more you use it, the better it will look and feel.
TREAT YOUR LEATHER
After many months (or years) of use, the natural oils in the leather will begin to dry. Now is the time to use a leather conditioner! Always test any conditioner on a small, inconspicuous part of your leather item. Please note that conditioning with oil or an oil based product will darken the color of your leather, so proceed with caution.
